Special NCAdFed Members Recognized
This year, the NCAdFed recognized members who have achieved and or contributed much to our organization, their careers and the Greater Lafayette Community.
Lifetime Achievement Award
The Silver Medal Award is presented to a club member for their lifetime achievement in the marketing and/or advertising profession. This year's recipient is Terry Lucterhand, Co-Owner of Lafayette Printing Company.
Born in Tipton, Indiana, Terry moved to the north end of Lafayette at the age of four and has called it home ever since. He attended St. Lawrence School and was an outstanding three varsity letter winner at Central Catholic High School.
He attended Purdue University earning a degree in Industrial Management in 1973 and had thoughts of attending law school after passing the LSAT exam. With a low draft number for the Vietnam War, he married his college sweetheart three days after graduation in anticipation of going off to war. A career and job search was put on hold.
He eventually missed the draft so it was time to go to work and support his new bride. Later in 1973, he moved to Toledo to work for VARCO, a national forms company. A huge recession hit in 1975 that knocked the paper industry hard, so he packed-up the family and moved back to Lafayette. He found a job at Decker's Office Supply on Main Street and sold office furniture until 1977. With a child on the way, he took a new job selling insurance for the trucking industry at Bradshaw Insurance in Delphi. In 1981, the trucking industry experienced huge losses so he went back to work at Decker's.
Over the next two years, he established a friendly relationship with the neighbors across the alley at Lafayette Printing, owned by the Sattler family. In 1985, he bought into the business when Bob Sattler retired.
A very passionate citizen, he has dedicated his personal time to many community service events and organizations. He and his family have had a 30 year relationship with the Around the Fountain Art Fair where he has served as president, more than once, and held other positions over the years. He has been involved on various committees and the Board of Directors for the Chamber of Commerce; the Jazz and Blues Festival, St. E. Hospital Fair, the United Way Campaign, Downtown Business Corporation, and Dancing in the Streets. He has also served on various committees for the AD Club, AAMP and Ad Fed over the years. He is always willing to lend his time, talent and financial support, on behalf of Lafayette Printing, to Ad Fed for monthly meetings and special events such as tonight's ADDYs.
In the printing industry, he has served as president of the Indiana Printing Association, Vice President of the Illinois and Indiana Printing Association and eventually President of the ILL/IN Association. Under his leadership, he was instrumental in the revitalization of financial and membership growth that turned the association around dramatically within two years.
At Lafayette Printing, he has coordinated the annual Holiday Card which has won numerous ADDYs over the years along with other awards on the local and national level for Lafayette Printing clients.
He loves working with his customers and developing relationships. I know he goes out of his way, especially around client's birthdays, when that greeting card appears in the mail. He is very passionate about building the brand and image of Lafayette Printing and also takes the time to sit and truly listen to meet your printing needs. It isn't about the bottom line with him...but about building relationships. A standing joke with his family is that a simple trip to the grocery store, that would take probably 10 minutes, eventually turns into hours, as he runs into so many people and takes the time to visit with each one. He is known around home as the "Mayor"!
In his spare time he enjoys golf and watching the Boilermakers. He values his close personal relationship over the years with fellow team mates and coaches from CC, his professional relationships with his investment club members, and his dear family at Lafayette Printing.
Presidential Cup Award
North Central Advertising Federation Board of Directors presents the Presidential Cup to a member who has contributed the most to the organization in 2007. This year's winner is David Huhnke, Vice President, Director of Marketing, for Lafayette Savings Bank. David has been a driving force in the re-invention of Ad Fed and its ensuing success.
Serving as a past president of the Association of Advertising and Marketing Professionals, the predecessor of our current organization, this board member has served multiple board terms in the positions of ADDY chair, treasurer, president-elect, past president and board of governor's member. He has served on the finance committee of the American Advertising Federation District 6 and was the chairperson of the AAF District 6 Fall Conference. He has also represented North Central Advertising Federation at the past two AAF National Conventions.
As Vice President, Marketing, at Lafayette Savings Bank, David led his company to multiple ADDY wins including two coveted Best of Show award and multiple gold and silver ADDYs. He also has won numerous awards, including Best of Show awards, for the Indiana Credit Union League, Indiana Bankers Association and United Way.
His list of community involvement is extensive, serving as on the boards of YWCA, Leadership Lafayette and Purdue Student Publishing Foundation. He serves as Vice President of Alumni Relations for Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity; committee chair for Chamber of Commerce Grand Marquis de Lafayette award; is a member of the Community Relations Committee for Purdue Visitors Center; and is a community liaison for United Way.
Rising Star Award
To recognize a young (32 years old or younger) professional in the NCAdFed Club for their career achievement and community service to date, the 2007 Rising Star recipient is William Matthew Oates. Matt has a lengthy resume of award winning career accomplishments, an unfailing spirit of public service and extensive contributions to this organization. A graduate of Purdue University, this year's winner earned a Bachelor of Arts in Journalistic Communications and has completed Asbury Theological Seminary's EXL program.
In his career as a public relations assistant at St. Elizabeth Regional Health, he utilizes his publications' expertise through project design and editing. He works with vendors to arrange printing, media and promotional products and is a media liaison. He is a conduit to the organization's numerous community programs including United Way's Week of Caring and the March of Dimes Community Committee. He is also involved in departmental committees ranging from prostate screening to healthcare accreditation. He's been a part of the ADDY award winning team that has netted his company numerous gold and silver hardware, along with one Best of Show trophy.
His volunteer efforts are many. As correspondent for the North Indiana Conference of the United Methodist Church, he earned an award of merit for his coverage of the tragedy in Darfur. He writes a monthly column and regular articles for three Methodist publications. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Wesley Foundation at Purdue and is head trustee in residence at Aldersgate Christian Community house, working with students as a mentor and friend. He's secretary of the North Indiana Conference Board of Higher Education and Campus Ministry. He's even been a supply pastor for churches in Colburn and Buck Creek.
He currently serves on the Imagine Indiana Adult Task Force, edits the Leadership Lafayette newsletter and was recently honored as a Top Ten Under Forty by the Lafayette/West Lafayette Economic Development Corporation. And he's served as treasurer of North Central Advertising Federation for over three years.
